Dr. Susan Malone

Veterinarian

Like many teenagers, Susan dreamed about being a veterinarian growing up on a dairy farm in Sussex, surrounded by farm animals, cats, dogs, and her own horse Lucky. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College, she chose to work with small animals in practices in Sussex, Fredericton, Miramichi, Moncton and most recently, Rothesay. Dr. Malone is thrilled to be returning to Moncton to join the Mountain Road Animal Hospital team. So far, she has been impressed with the team’s commitment to working together, dedication to our clients’ health, and (perhaps most importantly) their potluck game.

With over 35 years of practice, including time as a locum relief veterinarian, Dr. Malone has developed interests in nutrition, dermatology and behaviour. She is skilled in dentistry and soft tissue surgery and enjoys the challenges of treating diabetes. Dr. Malone’s ideal day of work includes a mix of surgery and outpatient appointments, with a healthy dose of puppies and kittens throughout. In her spare time, Dr. Malone is a board member of The Friends of the Zoo, and she enjoys volunteering at their fundraising events to improve habitat enrichment for the animals.

In her personal life, Dr. Malone is a mother of 3: Laura, who lives in Yellowknife, Patrick at home in Moncton; and Emily, who is shortly moving to Glasgow, Scotland. Travelling to visit her daughters has been one of the highlights of her vacation time in recent years. At home, Phoebe (a mixed pit bull-Boxer) and Malcolm (a tuxedo cat) guard the house. As long as the ground isn’t frozen, Dr. Malone can spend hours at a time in her plant and vegetable gardens. She is an avid reader, and her Book Club meeting with friends is a highlight of each month. Gathering with friends and family also gives Dr. Malone the opportunity to cook and bake, some of her most loved hobbies.

Dr. Malone is looking forward to meeting all of you and your furry family members.
